What You and Your Users Will Receive

Our commenting system features intelligent notification rules designed to keep conversations flowing while avoiding unnecessary emails. Team members have control over which comments trigger notifications to users.

When posting comments, admins can choose whether to send email notifications to relevant users (including the original poster, those who voted, and previous commenters).

Here's how we manage notifications through emails:

Admin Comments

When admins weigh in on a post with a comment:

  • Who gets notified? Every user who upvoted the post.

  • Why? To keep interested users informed when an admin adds context or updates on the idea.

User Comments

When a user drops a comment:

  • Who gets notified? Admins; all user comment activity are notified to admins via email.

  • Why? To ensure you don't miss any comments from your user.

Replies

In the case of direct replies in a thread:

  • Who gets notified? Only the original poster of the comment being replied to.

  • Why? To ensure users receive relevant responses without extra noise.

Mentions

When a user is @mentioned in any comment:

  • Who gets notified? Only the user who is mentioned.

  • Why? To directly alert users of a specific note or call to action aimed at them.

This thoughtful system ensures engaged users stay updated on the ideas they care about while preventing a flood of less relevant emails.

Example to better understand

To better understand how commenting emails work on Supahub, let’s follow a scenario involving our admin, John Doe, and two users, Alex and Dan.

  1. Admin Comment by John Doe: John, an admin, leaves a comment on a popular post.

    • Outcome: All users who upvoted the post receive an email notification. This keeps them in the loop directly from the admin’s feedback or update.

  2. User Comment by Alex: Alex finds the post engaging and decides to leave his thoughts.

    • Outcome: No email notifications are sent out. Alex's comment is directed to the Supahub inbox, ready for someone to engage if they choose to.

  3. Reply to Alex’s Comment by Dan: Dan sees Alex's comment and decides to reply, adding his own insights.

    • Outcome: Only Alex receives an email notification. This alerts him that his comment has received direct feedback, inviting him to return and continue the conversation.

  4. Mention in a Comment: In a twist, let's say within another comment, Alex directly mentions Dan using @Dan because he wants to draw Dan's attention to a specific detail.

    • Outcome: Only Dan is notified via email. This direct callout ensures Dan knows exactly where his input or response is specifically needed.

Through these interactions, Supahub's commenting email system ensures that each player - John Doe, Alex, and Dan - receives relevant notifications. This encourages a dynamic and engaging community dialogue, with email alerts tailored to foster meaningful conversations without adding unnecessary clutter to your inbox.
